The ramifications of the Iran conflict's explosion go well beyond the Middle East.
The area is crucial to the world's shipping lanes and energy sources, raising worries that prices for everything from grocery shopping baskets to heating bills could rise.
These are five ways that the conflict could impact your daily life.
1. The cost of gasoline and diesel begins to rise
Fuel prices have immediately increased as a result of the crisis because oil and gas production and transportation throughout the region have slowed or stopped completely in many cases. However, it is uncertain how this will develop over the next few weeks and months.
According to weekly government estimates, as of Monday, the average price of gasoline in the UK was 132.14p per litre, while the average price of diesel was 142.15p per litre.
According to the RAC, which monitors daily pricing, average petrol and diesel prices increased by 3p and 5p per litre, respectively, between Saturday and Thursday.
The average price of gasoline in the United States increased by around 23 cents (17p) per gallon on Tuesday compared to the previous week, while the average price of diesel increased by about 41 cents per gallon.
These initial rises pale in comparison to those observed in 2022 following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The average price of unleaded gasoline in the UK the week prior to the invasion was 147.77p per litre. It had increased by more than 43p per litre in early July, less than four months later.
In June 2022, the cost of gasoline and diesel in the US reached a peak of more than $5 a gallon.
2. In less than a week, UK gas prices have nearly quadrupled since Saturday.
The benchmark UK gas price, which was last traded at 165p per therm a year after the conflict in Ukraine began, increased over that amount on Tuesday. Before dropping to 127p on Wednesday, it closed at 138p per therm, still more than a fifth above Monday's price.
Although there have been worries that the present crisis would have an effect akin to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the price of gas in the UK is currently far lower than it was in 2022, when it peaked at more than 600p per therm.
The UK government intervened in response to this extraordinary increase, offering millions of people £400 off their energy bills for the winter of 2022–2023.
The energy price cap, which is in effect at its current level until July, shields UK consumers from any sudden changes in worldwide gas costs.
However, a larger price cap for the summer can result if gas prices continue to rise.
3. Customers may eventually be impacted by delivery costs
Due to Iran's threat to "set fire" ships, traffic in the vital Strait of Hormuz has almost ceased, leaving roughly 200 tankers stranded.
In the meantime, because of the anticipated increased risk of assault, insurance rates have increased dramatically, especially for ships that are thought to be American, British, or Israeli.
According to data from the London Stock Exchange Group, leasing a supertanker to transport oil from the Middle East to China cost more than $400,000 (£298,300) per day on Monday, which is over twice as much as it did the previous week.

However, the influence on prices at the cash register "builds up more gradually, hitting its peak after 12 months," according to an analysis from 2022, whereas increases can impact import costs at the dock within a few months.
This week, the IMF declared that it was "too early" to determine how the Iran conflict would affect the region's and the world's economies, as this would depend on its scope and duration.
