Iran claims that US and Israeli strikes killed 108 people at a school.
A local prosecutor claims that an explosion at a school in southern Iran has killed at least 108 people.
It occurred during the huge airstrikes against the nation by the US and Israel.
It was described as a "barbaric deed" and "another black page in the chronicle of many crimes committed by the aggressors" by President Masoud Pezeshkian. The two Western nations have not confirmed the attack on the school, which is close to an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps camp.
According to the Iranian Red Crescent, the airstrikes have killed at least 201 people nationwide and injured 747 more.
Following the event, the society organized emergency teams to visit the school, according to Red Cross and Red Crescent authorities in Geneva.
According to an official, the school was "targeted by three missile attacks" in the province of Hormozgan's town of Minab.
It is roughly 600 meters (1968 feet) away from the IRGC's base.
Videos of the explosion's aftermath, which the BBC has authenticated, show smoke rising from a building while people can be heard screaming in fear and groups congregate close.
However, because foreign news organizations are frequently denied visas to Iran, which significantly restricts their capacity to obtain information there, it has not been able to independently confirm the death toll.
When they learned about the incident, Iranian social media users became enraged.
"The first victims of this war are 40 girls in Minab, hit by a missile attack," said an Iranian expatriate who is against military participation in Iran. Do you support this war?
However, many people find it difficult to believe official findings due to their deep hatred of the Iranian regime, and some Iranians outright blamed the regime for the attack.
"Even if the regime did not directly target schools, the Islamic Republic remains responsible for the killing of children in Minab," a user commented. There are no shelters available, phone lines are down, the internet is unavailable, and there has been no alert to prevent kids from attending school. The bare minimum in these circumstances ought to be to remain at home.
As the US and Israel carried out wave after wave of airstrikes against targets in many Iranian cities throughout Saturday, the school tragedy occurred.
Despite US President Donald Trump's claim that Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and many of his senior commanders had been killed in the initial strikes, it appears that the attacks will continue.
Khamenei's death was later announced by Iranian official media.
